Redecorating your home can be one of the most stressful activities you’ll ever have to carry out but it certainly is rewarding – if it’s done correctly. Our specialist team have many years of knowledge and vast experience in the Interior Design industry, so we feel we’re best placed to put together the ultimate checklist to ensure your experience is successful.
Take a deep breath and put the kettle on… It’s all going to be OK!
Have a very firm idea of what it is that you want
This advice sounds pretty obvious, right? Well, you’d be surprised by how many people encounter a rookie mistake that disrupts the entire project just because they overlooked something in the beginning. Know your redecoration plans inside and out before you do anything else. Seriously, we mean it!
Enlist the help of professionals
Be very, very realistic when it comes to delegating tasks to yourself. A study of 2,000 Brits has shown that 80% of the population attempted some form of DIY during the coronavirus pandemic, and that a staggering nine in ten people admitted to making a mess of at least 3 their projects! If you don’t have extensive experience and significant confidence in a particular area – such as wallpapering or tiling – just leave it to the professionals.
Always have your budget in mind
It can be easy to get lost in a redecoration project, so much so that you end up massively exceeding your budget by the time the final decorative cushion is placed on the bed. As you move through the project, constantly have your budget in mind and be strict when it comes to making decisions. If you’ve taken our advice and ensured you have a very firm idea of what it is that you want before making any moves, this should be easier.
Remember that the design process is key
You know what you want and you know who you need to make it happen – even how much it’s all going to cost – but do you have any idea of what it’s all going to look like? The design process is absolutely crucial and must be taken seriously from start to finish. If you’re wondering ‘where are the best home interior designers near me?’, that’s James Cornwell Interiors. Wink.
Clean up as you go along
We cannot stress enough how important it is that you clean up as you go along. It might be tempting to just zoom through the entire redecoration project, focusing solely on the labouring parts first and dealing with ‘the little bits’ later, but you’ll thank yourself for finding a balance between both. The last thing you want is to be left with a beautiful, redecorated, finished home – but unable to enjoy it straight away because of all the rubbish that has accumulated since the project started. Redecorating a property is already stressful… don’t make it even more so!
